Synthesis of a tetrapyrazinoporphyrazine-based fluorescent sensor for detection of Cu2+ ion

In this study, a novel tetrapyrazinoporphyrazine-based fluorescent sensor for Cu2+ ion was synthesized and fully characterized by 1H NMR, MALDI-TOF MS, and elemental analysis. A tetrapyrazinoporphyrazine substituent was used as the reporting group and a 2,2?-dipyridylamine moiety was employed as the recognition group. The effects of various metal ions on the absorption and emission spectra of the designed molecule were investigated, demonstrating that this compound shows selectivity and sensitivity toward the Cu2+ ion. Upon addition of Cu2+ ion, a fluorescent intensity of the tetrapyrazinoporphyrazine-based sensor decreased gradually at 655?nm. To confirm a selective binding ability of 2,2?-dipyridylamine moiety toward Cu2+ ion, a comparative study was performed using tetrapyrazinoporphyrazine derivative with bromine instead of 2,2?-dipyridylamine moiety. Furthermore, association constant and detection limit value of the synthesized compound toward Cu2+ ion were derived from a repetitive titration experiment. Also, a reversibility of the prepared sensor was confirmed through additional test using compound and ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid.

Thus, systematic development of new catalytic materials is required to take advantage of the only substantial source of renewable carbon. In this review, we discuss the foundational methodologies that enable rational catalyst design through the investigation of surface-adsorbate interactions and the elucidation of descriptors for selectivity control. Molecular spectroscopies, efficient and predictive computational modeling, rigorous kinetic investigations, and highly controlled materials synthesis have generated fundamental insights leading to general catalyst design principles in biomass upgrading processes. The application of each technique in biomass research is discussed in the context of several case studies, with a focus on the unique insights available from each technique. Moreover, the interplay among multiple techniques, particularly between experimental and computational methods, is also highlighted. Despite the impressive progress made in the biomass field, major roadblocks still exist due to the complexity in the composition and structure of both substrates and catalysts. We share our perspectives regarding future needs in selective catalytic conversions of multifunctional substrates and methods for accelerating catalyst development.

Plesiomonas shigelloides, a pathogen responsible for frequent outbreaks of severe travelers’ diarrhea, causes grave extraintestinal infections. Sepsis and meningitis due to P. shigelloides are associated with a high mortality rate as antibiotic resistance increases and vaccines are not available. Carbohydrate antigens expressed by pathogens are often structurally unique and are targets for developing vaccines and diagnostics. Here, we report a total synthesis of the highly functionalized trisaccharide repeating unit 2 from P. shigelloides serotype 51 from three monosaccharides. A judicious choice of building blocks and reaction conditions allowed for the four amino groups adorning the sugar rings to be installed with two N-acetyl (Ac) groups, rare acetamidino (Am), and d-3-hydroxybutyryl (Hb) groups. The strategy for the differentiation of amino groups in trisaccharide 2 will serve well for the syntheses of other complex glycans.
